Rivonia is older than most of Sandton and it shows in the buildings: 1980s office blocks with basement parking, small industrial and trade units off Rivonia Boulevard, a strip of restaurants, and residential streets behind all of it. Very little of what we do here is a new building. It is almost all replacing or repairing doors that have been in service for twenty or thirty years.
Older buildings, older doors
- Basement parking shutters. The office blocks along Rivonia Road mostly still have their original entrance doors. Frequently the curtain is serviceable and the failure is bearings, guides or a motor that was replaced once with something underpowered.

- Homes. Residential Rivonia runs to single and double garages on stands built before wide doors were standard. Low lintels are common, so roll-up doors do a lot of work here.
Retrofitting security to an old opening
A thirty-year-old shutter is usually not insecure because of the curtain. It is insecure because the guides were plugged into brickwork that has since crumbled, the anti-lift brackets were never fitted, and the bottom rail can be levered. All three are retrofittable. We would rather sell you the fixings and the brackets than a whole new door you did not need — and we will say plainly when the curtain genuinely has reached the end.
Motorising an existing door
Plenty of Rivonia doors are still hand-chain. Most can be motorised, provided the door runs true and the spring balance is right. We correct the balance first, always. A motor bolted to an unbalanced thirty-year-old shutter burns out and takes the goodwill with it.
