Roller Shutter Door Repairs

Roller shutter door repairs on all makes, industrial and domestic. Most doors do not fail suddenly — diagnosing the cause properly is a great deal cheaper than replacing a door that only needed springs.

Damaged roller shutter curtain removed from its opening and laid out for repair

Roller shutter doors rarely fail without warning. They get slower, noisier and heavier for weeks or months first, and almost every door we are called out to had been showing symptoms that nobody logged. Catching it at that stage is the difference between a spring replacement and a new door.

What actually goes wrong

After two decades the failure list is short and predictable:

  • Torsion springs. Fatigue is measured in cycles, not years. A door opened forty times a day reaches its design life in a fraction of the time of one opened twice.
  • Limit switches drifting. The door starts stopping short of the floor, or straining against it. Left alone, this burns out the operator.
  • Guide rails packed with debris. The curtain binds, the motor works harder, and the slats start to wear at the edges.
  • Bottom rail damage. Almost always a forklift. A bent rail stops the door sealing and eventually jams the curtain in the guides.
  • Motors and gearboxes. Usually a symptom rather than a cause, so replacing one without finding out what overloaded it just buys a few months.

Repair or replace

We will tell you which, and we will tell you honestly. A curtain with three damaged slats near the bottom does not need a new door — those slats can be swapped individually. A twenty-year-old door with a corroded curtain, worn guides and a failing drive is throwing good money after bad, and we will say so rather than sell you a sequence of repairs that never quite fixes it.

Where parts are proprietary and no longer manufactured, we say that upfront too.

Doors we work on

Most of our repair work is on doors we did not install. We handle industrial roller shutter door repairs on warehouse and factory openings, roller door repairs on domestic garages and complexes, and we service sectional overhead and high-speed fabric doors as well. All common makes — if it is a roller shutter, we have almost certainly worked on one.

Industrial door repairs on wide openings usually need two technicians and sometimes a lift, so tell us the approximate width when you call and we will send the right team the first time.

What a repair visit involves

The technician measures spring tension, checks the limits and drive, inspects the guides and curtain, and tests the safety devices before leaving. You get a written report of what was done and what is likely to need attention next. If a part has to be ordered, you will be told the lead time on the day rather than a week later.

If the door has stopped completely

A door stuck open is a security problem and a door stuck shut is a trading problem. Both need attendance today, not a booking next week — that is a separate queue, and the number for it is on our emergency page.

How a repair visit runs

The technician starts by operating the door and listening to it, because most faults announce themselves before anything is dismantled. Spring tension is measured rather than guessed, the limits are checked against where the door actually stops, the guides and curtain are inspected for wear and damage, and every safety device is tested before the visit ends. You get a written report of what was done and what is likely to need attention next.

Parts we hold

Torsion springs across the common ratings, motors and gearboxes, individual slats, bottom rails, guide rails, bearings, chains, remotes and safety edges. For doors we manufactured we hold the exact components rather than ordering them in, which is usually the difference between a same-visit fix and a week of waiting.

What a repair costs

It depends entirely on what failed, which is why we quote after diagnosis rather than over the phone. A limit switch reset is a callout charge. A spring replacement on a wide industrial door is two technicians and a morning. An estimate given for a door nobody has looked at is a number that changes later, and we would rather not start that way.

Common questions

About roller shutter door repairs

A curtain with a few damaged slats near the bottom does not need replacing — those slats swap out individually. A door with a corroded curtain, worn guides and a failing drive is throwing good money after bad. We will tell you which one you have, and we would rather lose the sale than string out repairs on a door that is finished.

It depends entirely on what failed. A limit switch reset is a call-out fee. A spring replacement on a wide industrial door is a bigger job with two technicians. We quote after diagnosis rather than over the phone, because a phone estimate for a door nobody has looked at is a number that changes later.

Torsion springs, by a distance — their life is measured in cycles, so a door opened forty times a day wears far faster than one opened twice. After that: limit switches drifting out of adjustment, guide rails packed with debris, and bottom rails bent by forklifts.

Yes. Roller shutters are the bulk of our work, but we service sectional overhead doors and high-speed fabric doors as well, on industrial and commercial sites.
