Transparent Roller Shutter Doors

Polycarbonate roller shutter doors that close an opening without closing off the light or the view. Popular for showrooms, malls and service counters.

Transparent polycarbonate roller shutter door on a showroom entrance

A transparent roller shutter door secures an opening while leaving the space behind it visible. Clear polycarbonate links replace the solid steel slat, so a shopfront stays lit and shoppable after hours and a workshop keeps its natural light with the door down.

Where they work

  • Shopping centre stores where the landlord requires the display to stay visible
  • Vehicle showrooms and dealership service bays
  • Reception and service counters that close overnight
  • Internal openings where blocking light would mean running more lights

How secure are they, honestly

Polycarbonate is impact resistant, not impenetrable. It resists the opportunistic attack — a kick, a thrown brick, a trolley — far better than glass, and the aluminium link frame ties into the same guide rails and anti-lift locking as our solid doors. For a cash office or a high-risk perimeter we would put a solid or perforated door on it instead, and we will say so at quoting rather than sell you the wrong product.

Specification

  • Clear polycarbonate links in an aluminium frame
  • Full-vision or alternating solid-and-clear configurations
  • Openings to 5 000mm wide
  • Key switch, remote or push-button control
  • Replaceable individual links — a damaged section does not mean a new door

Polycarbonate scratches more easily than steel and hazes over many years of UV exposure. Ours are UV-stabilised and the links can be swapped individually, which keeps the long-term cost sensible.

Maximum visibility, real security

A transparent shutter uses polycarbonate panels between aluminium or steel links, giving an almost clear barrier that still locks into guide rails and resists forced entry. Where a perforated curtain obscures a display, a transparent one effectively disappears — which is why they dominate high-end retail, motor showrooms and airport concessions.

The trade-off is honest: polycarbonate scratches where steel dents, and the panels need cleaning to keep looking like the reason you bought them. In a controlled indoor environment such as a mall concourse that is a minor consideration. On an exposed street frontage taking weather and grit, a perforated steel curtain is usually the better long-term choice, and we will say so.

How we build it

Every door is manufactured to your measured structural opening at our own works, not cut down from a stock size. Slat is roll-formed on our own line, guides are cut and drilled to the opening height, and the springs are wound to balance the finished curtain weight. Powder coating is applied after fabrication so the colour holds across the whole assembly rather than just the visible slat.

What decides the specification

Two things: the width of the opening and how often the door moves. Spring life is measured in cycles rather than years, so a door opening forty times a day needs a different spring and drive to one opening twice, even at identical dimensions. After that it is environment — salt air, washdown, dust or forklift traffic each change the material and the hardware. That is why we survey before quoting.

Installation and handover

Fitted by our own teams, never subcontracted. Guides are set plumb and square, the curtain is hung and balanced, limits are set, and every safety device is tested and adjusted within safe closing force before we leave. You get a demonstration of normal operation and of the manual override, because the first time you need that override should not be during an outage.

Warranty and aftercare

Workmanship is covered for twelve months and motors carry their manufacturer warranty, which we register for you. Because we manufactured your shutter, we can tell you its exact specification years later and we hold the wear parts for it rather than ordering them in — which is the practical difference between a repair that happens this week and one that waits on a supplier.
